Immediately Following Death Of Antonin Scalia, Repubs Promise To Obstruct Obama In Appointing Replacement

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has passed away at the age of 79. WND says "the horrid reaction and comments about his death expressed by many liberals online illustrate that Scalia was hated by many people". While I don't know about that (haven't seen any "horrid comments", I will acknowledge I did not like Scalia (viewed him as a racist and toady for the plutocrats). But I never once wished he would die.

There are several SCOTUS members who are getting up there in age and both sides are aware that the next president will likely get to appoint a few new justices, which will sway the political leanings of the court. This makes the next presidential election potentially quite uconsequential. I never imagined that a justice would die this close to the end of Obama's term, however. But now that it has happened, it is Obama who gets to nominate the justice of his choice (as per the Constitution).

In fact the selection of a new justice was the subject of an email I received from WND this morning (I'm on the WND email list). WHY would they be speaking of nominating a SCOTS judge, I thought. Had one of them died? Yep. The awfulest one. Hurray!... is NOT what I thought. What I immediately thought was that the Repubs were going to do EVERYTHING to delay his replacement. Put it off to after the upcoming election so that President Trump can do the selecting. Or President Cruz (even though he might not be Constitutionally eligible to be president. But he isn't a Democrat so his being born in Canada probably won't be as big an issue as Obama NOT being born in Kenya was).

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Senate should not confirm a replacement for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia until after the 2016 election — an historic rebuke of President Obama's authority and an extraordinary challenge to the practice of considering each nominee on his or her individual merits.

The swiftness of McConnell's statement — coming about an hour after Scalia’s death in Texas had been confirmed — stunned White House officials who had expected the Kentucky Republican to block their nominee with every tool at his disposal, but didn't imagine the combative GOP leader would issue an instant, categorical rejection of anyone Obama chose to nominate. (McConnell throws down the gauntlet: No Scalia replacement under Obama by Burgess Everett and Glenn Thrush. Politico 2/13/16).

All I can say is that this is bullplop and I pray that McConnell and his fellow obstructors don't get away with it. But I am sure they're going to try like hell to deny Obama what the Constitution grants him. But if they do manage to get away with it, then it'll be president Hillary Clinton or president Bernie Sanders who does the appointing. Which would be even better (if it's president Bernie Sanders).

Still, it is Obama who (under the Constitution) who should be doing the appointing, so that better be what happens. I mean, I very, very, very, much doubt that if the president were a Republican and Congress were controlled by the Democrats that the Democratic majority leader would be suggesting such a thing.

  1. Fact is, if a democrat is elected in 2016, a strong possibility, they will have multiple opportunities to flip the court. The republican leadership is playing a cynical game. Which surprises no one who is paying attention.

    1. And, after the court is flipped, it reverses Citizens United. A reversal by the court being much more likely than a Constitutional amendment.

btw, in regards to Scalia's death, the WND nitwits are now speculating that he might have been murdered (Scalia found dead with "pillow over his head"... murder speculation in title only, not article... but also in the comments).

      For example...

The minute I heard that he died, I knew he was killed. feeling so good like always and decided to go hunting. and then dead, no gov killed him in desperate to make dems win or even those on the so called right to have their nwo, new world order. there is a jusdgement day coming and their will be hell to pay for them..I hope America gets smart and votes all Trump..because if they are so dumbed down to put cruz, bush or rubio in all hell will be loosed and to late for anyone.

Here one that suggests Hillary did it!...

Very interesting. I was just reading a couple of weeks ago an article about how Hilary Clinton was flirting with the idea of appointing Barack Obama to the Supreme Court after she became president. I'll have to look that up again. In fact, I was telling my dad about it after I read it, and as soon as we heard about Scalia's death, he said that was very suspicious in light of what we had discussed.

This one points the finger at Cruz!...

Guevara puts another question mark in the Cruz man and his funders. But hey, no one needs to bother! The Cuban connection is nothing...riight!

[Reply1] ??? Illogical. Are you saying you suspect Cruz? Cruz would have been in agreement with 99.5% of Scalia's decisions. Ted Cruz went before the SCOTUS 9 times and won 5. Your post makes no sense whatsoever.

[Reply2] If you READ carefully, you will see...THE CRUZ FUNDERS are the ones in question. In any case, this does not take the spotlight off Cruz. He is responsible for the kind of folks he takes money from. But putting that aside, Cruz is an NWO'er anyway. So...go do your homework to find the truth.

  2. WND is perhaps the most dishonest political rag of them all, Although some might say Breitfart is.

In either case the far right nutters eat the sh*t up.

I found a couple articles in Breitfart quite awhile back I thought were reasonably correct. But most were BS so I stopped reading all Breitfart publications.

I think the two are simply trying to out do the others craziness. They have a large audience apparently.

    1. They aren't called World NUT Daily for no reason. I find them to be quite racist as well (with all their stories re "Black mobs").
